Checking out the Little Winter Sale

I know, I know I'm way late posting about this. But, meh... what can you do? Last weekend Sciarrino and I popped into the Little Winter Sale at the Ace Hotel. It was awesome! Packed... and I mean really packed...full of treasures and creations from some of my favorite artisans. Not only was I in awe of all the great stuff on display, I was also super intrigued by the various booth signs. I've been doing a lot of research trying to decide what I want to do for Lovely Lydia and this event really gave me some inspiration. I have my fingers crossed for a Little Winter return next year.

My Favorite Style Icons

I was reading the Lavender & Lilies blog today and loved her post on Favorite Style Icons. It got me thinking...who are my style icons?  Though there are many I admire, I chose a few that I have been channeling the most. Who's style has you swooning? It's harder than you think!

First on my list is Taylor Swift.  I love her lax, but feminine style she always looks so comfortable in her clothes with a flirty romantic edge.  Taylor is known to layer on the scarves and I can certainly relate to that! Not to mention the girl is tall and still rocks the high-heels! I also love the fact that she sports a lot of boutique Portland brands. I just wish I had the nerve to sport the red lipstick.

And how could I leave Scarlett Johansson out of the picture?  Scarlett never shy's away from having a bit of fun with her attire. A wee bit nerdy but always accompanied with a vintage flare. I love that she features those fabulous curves.

Craft and Create

This past weekend was great; filled with crafting and creating.  I met with my regular sewing ladies (Sciarrino and Amber) for a full day of chit-chat, laughing, and lots & lots of sewing.   Amber was generous and let me play in her fabric scrap pile, which is awesome. We made fun camera straps using scraps, which is something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long, long time. Sciarrino worked away on a top secret project for PMQG (will post about it when it’s ready).  I have to give a seriously huge shout out to B.J. for watching Tuesday (Amber and BJ's daughter) so we ladies could have a full day of crafting.  We occupied the Garrison’s house way later than we had planned, which is a sign of a great day...one you just don't want to end.

This was my dad's camera strap, from way back when. He gave it to me with his FTb Canon Manual Camera, which was the first camera that sparked my love for photography.

Craft and Create II

Last fall I spotted these cute velvet pumpkins created by Hot Skwash but hesitated to buy them at the time and had to wait a whole year before I finally was able to find them again.  This last weekend I ventured to a nifty shop in downtown Portland called Ink and Peat and bought both a blue and orange pumpkin.  As soon as I got home from the store I decided two just wasn’t enough (they looked so lonely!) so I ripped the stems off of my rotting, carved ‘kins, picked up some velvet fabric on sale, 6 bags of rice, and made my own attempt at some plush pumpkins.  Now I have a small family of velvety pumpkins nestled on top of our coffee table.  Perfect for autumn!
